I  believe in building IEPs different than you've ever seen before. 

The school system was broken on the inside. I didn't find that out until I got my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Special Education and walked into my first classroom. With the exception of a stack of IEPs 18 inches high, in a bright green milk crate, sitting on a teacher's desk that wobbled... it was empty. 

Eavesdropping on my Mom's never ending phone calls with our district's Special Education Director was common during my elementary school years.  While my mom negotiated for hours on the phone (and burned dinner), I wondered why teaching my brother (who has Down syndrome) was so hard. 

It started by helping a few families learn the right words and strategies at their own IEP table. I taught by day and coached parents by night.

Soon after I left the classroom (and filled my calendar with families desperate for help), an administrator chased me into the parking lot.

I had just attended an IEP meeting at her school (hired by parents) and she begged me to help her teachers build IEPs like I did in that meeting.
